Who is Beryl Markham?

On our recent trip to Cohuna we stopped twice at Sealake a small country Victorian town.
We went into a small second hand bookshop where all the books had been donated locally.
Every book no matter size, shape, reputation, condition is $2 each.
We spent $30 very quickly.
One of the books I came across was "West with the Night" by Beryl Markham.
An amazing lady who lived most of her life in East Africa(kenya).
She was a horse trainer, world famous pilot and adventurer who grew up as a young girl with native African children as her playmates.
There are amazing encounters with lions, horses and flying expeditions.
There has been a movie and documentary about her life.
While reading it I thought this is like "Out of Africa" and there is a direct connection with the author Karen Blixen, of that well known book and movie.
According to reports Ernest Hemingway said she had surpassed him as a writer.
It was her only book(Autobiographical) and there are some other short stories I believe.
There is much controversy about her but this is a book that you can't put down.
Recommended.
